UNIQUE BREED GOALTENDING
Goalies are all unique. It was Thomas Magnusson, head of goaltending development at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and the Godfather of goaltending, that said "There are as many styles as there are goalies." Unique Breed teaches goalies with this in mind. No goalie should be forced into a "style" of play that they are not comfortable with. Just because it is the hot new craze or what NHL goalies are doing, doesn't mean it works for everyone. Play your game and be your own goalie.
Unique Breed uses both new techniques as well as proven ones to help goalies advance their game. UBG will tweak the goalie's existing game to make it work better for them and also add new tools to a goalies tool box for them to use.
Concentrating on the basics of goaltending is important for EVERY goalie, not just goalies new to the position. At the beginning of a goalies time in net, it is important to set a firm foundation with the basic skills. As a goalie gets older and continues to develop, they should add new skills while continually working on and strengthening those basic skills. For instance, a goalie needs to be a strong skater. Perhaps the best skater on the team. Once a goalie learns how to skate, do they stop working on their skating skills? No, they continually work on and strengthen their skating. At Unique Breed Goaltending, the basic skills never get left behind no matter who you are and where you play.
The 2017-18 season will be Ron Slavick's 4th season as the goalie coach with this storied hockey team.
CRANBROOK HOCKEY A WINNING TRADITION MHSAA CLASS B-C-D, DIVISION III STATE CHAMPIONS 1979, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015 From the early beginnings, the mid 1930’s, to the inaugural season as a sanctioned sport by the MHSAA (1979) until today, there has been a constant theme at Cranbrook – High School Hockey would be part of the Athletic Department and it would be a successful program. Since 1979 Cranbrook earned 17 MHSAA State Hockey Titles – more than any other school in Michigan. Cranbrook currently competes in Division III of the MHSAA State Tournament and is a member of the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League. In the summer of 1993, Cranbrook hired Andrew (Andy) C. Weidenbach to take over the hockey program. It was a pivotal point in Cranbrook hockey: the team was once again returned to its position as one of the most successful and respected high school hockey programs. Andy modeled the Cranbrook team after the many successful junior teams he produced in the North American Junior Hockey League (NAJHL) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He established the following philosophy for the hockey program: Team Philosophy The philosophy of the Cranbrook Kingswood Varsity Hockey Team is to teach the student athletes the fundamentals of hockey and instill in them the attributes necessary to achieve success. These attributes are responsibility and accountability for one’s actions, discipline, dedication to team goals and respect for coaches, teammates and opponents.
Mission Statement Cranbrook Schools are independent day and boarding schools that provide students with a challenging and comprehensive college preparatory education. We motivate students from diverse backgrounds to strive for intellectual, creative, and physical excellence, to develop a deep appreciation for the arts and different cultures, and to employ the technological tools of our modern age. Our schools seek to instill in students a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, the ability to think critically, and the competence to communicate and contribute in an increasingly global community.
Guiding Principles Cranbrook Schools comprise a college preparatory day and boarding educational institution, early childhood through 12th grade, consisting of three divisions: a lower, middle and an upper school. We are structured to recognize and respond to the developmental, cognitive and creative needs of boys and girls and are dedicated to excellence in all aspects of education.
